Interfood supports innovative methane reduction solution by Ambient Carbon

Interfood announces its support for the innovative methane reduction solution developed by Ambient Carbon. As a global dairy ingredients partner, Interfood sees first-hand how crucial it is for the industry to accelerate meaningful greenhouse gas (CO₂e) reductions across the dairy value chain. The collaboration combines Ambient Carbon’s technology with Interfood's global network, market access and deep understanding of dairy supply chains to help turn climate ambition into concrete action.

Market demand

The timing of this collaboration is highly relevant. The market is clearly signaling a need for credible, practical tools that enable measurable emissions reductions rather than commitments on paper. According to Interfood, this shift requires solutions that work in everyday operations and can be scaled across the sector. “At Interfood, we believe that real progress on climate happens when strong ideas meet strong partnerships,“ says Klaas Jan van Calker, Head of Sustainability of Interfood. “Ambient Carbon’s MEPS solution is exactly the kind of innovation our industry needs. It's practical, scalable and focused on direct CO₂e reductions.”

Ambient Carbon’s methane eradication photochemical system (“MEPS”) is designed to meet that need. The system uses UV light in a treatment unit to break down methane in air streams, helping to remove methane and deliver cleaner air in return. Because methane is a short-lived but very potent greenhouse gas, reducing it can deliver significant near-term climate benefits and complement longer-term CO₂ reduction efforts. At the same time, the associated reduction in ammonia emissions can substantially improve local living conditions for farmers, nearby communities, and animals.

Proven technology

Field trials have already demonstrated the effectiveness of the technology in practice. “Our field trial has proven that the MEPS technology effectively eliminates dilute methane emissions in actual dairy barn conditions," said Dave Kenney, CEO of Ambient Carbon. “Support from strategic partners like Interfood, are essential as we bring the Ambient Carbon MEPS technology to market and assist the industry with meeting their 2030 GHG emission reduction goals.”

Once fully deployed, MEPS will become an important element in Interfood’s broader toolbox of interventions to support partners in lowering their climate footprint. The collaboration fits seamlessly with Interfood's long-term sustainability strategy, which focuses on partnering across the value chain to deliver better products, better performance, and better outcomes for people, animals, and the planet.
