EU price appreciation continues with force

Prices in the EU market continue their upward trajectory. Price momentum even seems to accelerate due to buyers no longer being comfortable relying on US origins. Buyers currently have to pay EUR 1150-1250 ex works. Suppliers are out of stock and already sold out for Q2 so buyers that are insufficiently covered have no options left but to comply with the current price levels.

Americas

Market remains quite tight

Lactose prices stick to levels around USD 0.40/lb (880/t) ex works. The market still feels tight but US prices continue to develop favorably compared to EU price levels. So, based on relative price levels, export opportunities should be plenty, but it appears that international buyers currently favor EU origins despite these unfavorable price levels.
