Internship Liquids Logistics Transport Costs Insights

The internship

With trading (buying & selling) as a core business, Logistics & Supply Chain Management are key activities to meet requirements as agreed in the commercial deal: delivering the right product at the agreed date and location. Therefore, the department of Logistics & Supply Chain executes around 50.000 shipments around the globe, in trucking, intermodal transports and/or deep-sea, for export and import. Interfood is fully non-asset-based as a trading company, which means that all logistic services and activities are purchased/outsourced. Currently, Interfood Europe works closely together with appr. 100 transport companies and 80 warehouses.

Your internship will be in the Liquids team, which is part of team Logistics. Within this role you will be responsible to give insights in transport costs for a comparison in lanes and distance based on the European transport market.

The transport lanes within business unit liquids for the European Hub are dynamic and change constantly. This, due to changes in trading opportunities, results in short term contracts and destinations. The outcome is a transport grid all over Europe, without the right measurement tool in transport costs. At the moment, it is very hard to compare transport costs between lanes as well as distance. Interfood wants to have a clear view on transport costs for a comparison in lanes and distance based on the European transport market.

The goal of the internship is split up in subgoals:

  • A visual cost landscape with a cost comparison between countries, lanes and distances.
  • Report on risks and opportunities from the first goal.
  • Analysis on ratio costs/kilometers with a clear focus on finding an optimum.
  • Provide general advice and recommendations.
